New Zealand – Immigration Update

September 23, 2020

New Zealand’s borders remain closed except to New Zealand citizens, residents and those granted an exemption to travel to New Zealand by “Immigration New Zealand”. Critical Health Workers whose occupation is classed by Immigration New Zealand, with registration and a suitable offer of employment may be eligible to be granted an exemption to travel as are “other critical workers” who are deemed to have unique experience and technical or specialist skills that are not readily available in New Zealand.

Today the New Zealand government has agreed the following border exceptions to support primary skills shortages:

  • Up to 30 veterinarians experienced in large animal and livestock roles
  • 570 people for up to 6 months as deepwater fishing crew
  • Up to 210 experienced agricultural and horticultural machinery operators.
