Migration proving to be a Popular Option for Doctors

August 30, 2012

Medical professionals are choosing to migrate overseas, rather than stay and work within the UK, according to Financial Times research.

In the past five years, the number of permanent visas for Australia which have been issued to UK-trained doctors has almost tripled – with an increasing number of workers looking to make their stay in Australia permanent.

Some reasons which have been cited for this increase include shorter hours, higher pay, better weather and an improved lifestyle.

In addition, the UK job market has made Australia a popular option for people who cannot get a job within the UK.

Alan Bell from the Association of Medical Recruiters of Australia and New Zealand says that the last few years has seen a substantial increase in medical professionals migrating to Australia and New Zealand, especially doctors and nurses from across the British Isles.

"A lot come out on the basis they're not seeing the opportunities they want in the UK and come out with the mindset of spending a few years for experience," he said.

"However when they get here, they are generally becoming more 'Velcroed'. There is no specific data, but anecdotally, we aren't hearing of large numbers returning."

If you are a current medical graduate, or you have a job which is in demand within Australia then there has never been a better opportunity to consider migration.

If you are looking for a warmer climate, a great lifestyle and better pay rates then a move to Australia could be just what you need. To find out how easy it is to migrate, contact The Emigration Group today on 01244 321414 (North) or 0207 118 2526 (South).
