Lower pass mark for Australian skilled migration

June 20, 2012

Migrating to Australia under the General Skilled Migration (GSM) program just got easier with news that the new SkillSelect visa subclasses 189, 190 and 489 will now require a pass mark of only 60 points compared to the previous 65.

Since 2008 the Australian Government has undertaken a number of reforms to the GSM program and this is just another step to respond to the recent demands of the Australian economy.

“These reforms have ensured the skilled migration program is a responsive and demand drive program,” said a spokesman for the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

"The cornerstone of this migration reform package will be the introduction of SkillSelect from July 1.”

Intended to effectively manage the GSM program, SkillSelect will allow potential migrants to complete an online Expression of Interest which will match their skills and attributes against a points test – determining their eligibility to move to Australia.

SkillSelect is designed to provide greater control over the GSM visa system and deliver a balanced migration program.

With the lowering of the pass mark there has never been a better time to consider migration to Australia – especially as a skilled migrant! To find out more contact The Emigration Group today on 01244 321414 (North) or 0207 118 2526 (South).
