DIAC Annual Migration Program Report

September 9, 2013

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has released its annual Migration Program Report. In 2012/13, a total of 190,000 people elected to move to Australia.

Of those, a total of 128,973 people entered the country through the DIAC's skilled stream, equating to 67.9 % of all visas granted. In addition to this, 60,185 people travelled Down Under through the DIAC's family stream, making up 31.7 % of all visas granted.

The remaining 842 people received visas through the special eligibility stream.

According to the Migration Program Report, India provided Australia with the most migrants during this 12-month period with 40,051 places. India was followed by, unsurprisingly, China, which took up 27,334 places.

The United Kingdom came in third place, offering up a still impressive 21,711 migrants.

The DIAC reveals the number of places that were actually granted to overseas travellers was in keeping with the program's projected amount of 190,000.
