It has been confirmed that changes to the Skilled Migrant Category which were deferred by Immigration New Zealand in November 2007 will be introduced on 4th February 2008. These changes mainly affect the way in which INZ will assess whether an applicant's job or job offer is 'skilled employment'.

The new Australian & New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) will be used as the basis for these assessments. The ANZSCO is a list of occupations with a skill level for each occupation, a description of the core tasks and the qualifications/work experience required. For the occupation to be acceptable under the Skilled Migrant Category it must appear on INZ's list of required occupations for the Skilled Migrant Category.

Changes have also been made to the qualifications that INZ will recognise.
