Adelaide's one of the World's Most Liveable Cities

August 28, 2012

With recent major infrastructure projects boosting its international profile, Adelaide has overtaken Sydney in the World's Most Liveable Cities' rankings.

Australian cities fared well in the poll with four of Australia's biggest cities – Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth – all finding themselves within the top 10.

Out of these four cities it's Adelaide that has seen the biggest growth and development in recent years – and this has been reflected in its jump up the rankings this year.

Jon Copestake, survey editor at the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) believes this is mainly due to developments that the city has seen in recent years.

"In Adelaide, projects completed in recent years under the Strategic Infrastructure Plan for South Australia have been enough to move the city above Sydney, whose score is unchanged (from 2011)" he said.

If you are considering migrating to Australia then Adelaide could be the ideal place for you to call home. In addition, under the General Skilled Migration program, Adelaide is classified as a "regional capital" meaning you could be eligible for regional sponsorship and therefore a quicker path to obtaining your visa.

This status makes it easier for employers in South Australia to sponsor skilled migrants and is a real incentive for people to consider migration to this area – if they list Adelaide as their new home.
