Major Changes to Australian Trades Skills Assessments

From 1st September 2007 a new Australian Migration Skills Assessment will be introduced for the following trade occupations: Air conditioning & refrigeration mechanicBricklayerCable jointerCarpenterElectrical powerline tradespersonGeneral electricianGeneral plumberJoinerMotor mechanic From 1st September the above occupations will no longer be assessed by Trades Recognition Australia. A new assessing authority “Vetassess Consortium” will take over – their procedure will be much more complicated and demanding. For applications lodged after 1st September 2007 a skills assessment will be a 3-stage process, involving an eligibility assessment, a paper-based application proving qualifications and work experience, and a technical interview and practical assessment.
